- 2008 Season Detail
The Mousetrap October 11 - 14 & 18 -21 Christie's mystery is set against the backdrop of an English manor, turned guesthouse. The proprietors of Monkswell Manor recently inherited the house from a relative, and are opening their business venture in the midst of a snowstorm with their first four guests; an eccentric architect; a very critical old woman; a retired Major; and a very self-assured and strong woman. A flamboyant gentleman who claims to have been stranded by the storm and now in need of a place to stay for the night, joins them. As the guests are settling in, the police phone and tell them there has been a murder in the area, the suspect is at large, and possibly at Monkswell Manor. Soon, a policeman arrives on skis, alleging that he is there to find the culprit. The situation soon turns far more serious when one of the guests is murdered and everyone becomes a suspect in a house cut off from the outside world due to the storm. It's a race against time and the elements as all parties try and figure out the identity of the killer and save themselves.
The Christmas Schooner December 6 - 9 & 13 - 16 Back by popular demand, this critically acclaimed holiday treat tells the story of a Michigan shipping captain who braves the deadly winter lake to bring the Tannenbaum (Christmas trees) to homesick German-American families in turn-of-the-century Chicago. His voyages become a yearly tradition, despite his wife's misgivings, until a fateful voyage makes her realize the true importance of his mission. This is family entertainment at its best–-hearty and wholesome. The Christmas Schooner , with music and lyrics by Julie Shannon and book by John Reeger, both Chicagoans, is based upon the stories of true Christmas tree ships that sailed the winter lake from 1896 to 1913.
The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood February 21 - 24 & February 28 - March 2 This play acted by older children for the enjoyment of the entire family is an hysterical romp into and out of Sherwood Forest with an egotistical but lovable Robin, his ridiculous, bumbling band of merry men and women, and his ever-faithful Maid Marion. Best described as “Monty Python for kids”, the play is narrated by Sherwood's “Townie” who saves the day when the evil Prince John plots to marry Marion off to the vile Sheriff of Nottingham. The play is rich physical comedy and silliness.
Blithe Spirit May 8 - 11 & 15 - 18th Coward's delightful farce, takes place in the living room of the home of successful British novelist Charles Condomine and his second wife, Ruth. They have invited Dr. Bradman and his wife over for a séance with Madame Arcati, who claims to be a psychic medium. All are highly skeptical of her ability to reach “beyond the grave”, however, they humor her so Charles can get material for a book he is researching. Everyone, including Madame Arcati, is completely taken by surprise when the ghost of Charles spoiled and selfish first wife, Elvira, actually appears. And even more troubling, she refuses to return to the spirit world. Charles soon realizes the dangers of dabbling in the occult when he discovers that Elvira is hatching a diabolical plot that involves murder! What follows is a wacky romp through this world and into the next, complete with surprising twists and crazy results.
