“Twelfth
Night” Auditions Announced
“If music be the food of love, play
on.” If you’ve longed to gush these immortal words of The Bards, your
chance is fast approaching. “Twelfth Night” is on it’s way to the LTCT
stage this summer with all its’ mad merriment, and is waiting your participation.
New audition dates for this summer's production of William Shakespeare's
Twelfth Night will be 7:00pm both Tuesday and Wednesday, May 24th and
25th (contrary to the dates announced in the program for Communicating
Doors) at the Crooked Tree Arts Center. Twelfth Night (or, What You Will),
the first production of LTCT's 60th Anniversary Season, will run July
21-24 and 28-31 (the last two weekend of July) and be directed by member
Bill Salisbury, aided by his wife Jan Salisbury and Gary Albert. There
are roles for 3-5 women and 11-14 men. Scripts are
available for sign out at the LTCT office. After reading the scripts,
please return them to the office prior to May 24th so that they may be
used for the auditions.
A delightfully comic tale of mistaken identities, Twelfth Night revolves
around the physical likeness between Sebastian and his twin sister Viola,
each of whom, when separated after a shipwreck, believe the other to be
dead. The theatrical romp begins when Viola assumes the identity of Cesario,
a servant of the lovesick Count Orsino, who sends her to woo the beautiful
Countess Olivia on his behalf. When the lady falls for the messenger (who
has already fallen for the count), romance infects her entire household-from
her boisterous uncle and his drinking buddies to a Puritan steward with
delusions of grandeur and all is pleasantly resolved when Viola and Sebastian
meet once again. Filled with some of the finest comedic scenes in the
English language, this entertaining masterpiece remains one of Shakespeare's
most popular and most performed comedies.
Roles available and character breakdown as follows:
ORSINO: 211 lines, Age 30s to 50s, the proud ruler of Illyria.
At the opening he is desperately in love with Olivia who spurns his romantic
overtures.

she disguises herself as a boy named Cesario and attains a position in
Duke Orsino's palace because of her wit and charm. The Duke uses her as
an emissary to court Olivia. Her twin brother, Sebastian, looks exactly
like her.
LADY OLIVIA: 293 lines, Age 30s to 40s, She is a rich countess
who is mourning her brother's recent death, but, when she meets the emissary
from Duke Orsino (Viola disguised as Cesario) she immediately falls in
love with the youth.
SEBASTIAN: 122 lines, Age 20s to 30s, The twin brother to Viola
who is mistaken for Cesario when he arrives in Illyria after also being
shipwrecked. He meets Olivia and enters immediately into marriage with
her.
ANTONIO: 107 lines, Age 20s to 40s, A sailor who aids and protects
Sebastian. His pleas for help are ignored by Viola, who in her disguise
as Cesario looks exactly like her twin brother Sebastian.

who lives with her and is given to constant drinking bouts. He delights
in playing tricks on others, especially Malvolio.
SIR ANDREW AGUECHEEK: 145 lines, Age 30s to 50s Toby's foppish,
wimpy companion who is encouraged to court Olivia so that Toby can gull
him out of enough money to continue the nightly drinking bouts.
MALVOLIO: 272 lines, Age 30s to 50s, Lady Olivia's steward who
has fantasies that she may someday marry him. He becomes the object of
an elaborate trick devised by Maria and Toby.
MARIA: 172 lines, Age 40s to 50s, Lady Olivia's attendant who is
bawdy, strong and brash. She is the clever arranger of the nasty trick
that was played on Malvolio.
FESTE: 301 lines, Any age, A clown or "jester"
in the employ of Lady Olivia. He is an entertainer's entertainer who has
a marvelous way with words, spoken and sung.
FABIAN: 109 lines, Any age, A servant of some importance

SEA CAPTAIN: 32 lines, Any age, A gallant sailor who helps rescue
Viola from the shipwreck and helps disguise her as Cesario.
The parts of VALENTINE, CURIO, FIRST OFFICER, SECOND OFFICER, PRIEST,
ATTENDANTS and MUSICIANS may be doubled.
LTCT is excited to welcome Bill and Jan Salisbury to the fold. Hailing
from West Bloomfield, Bill and Jan have vast experience in the theatre,
including a long time affiliation with Farmington Players and even own
their own dinner theatre in Allen Park. Bill and Jan have a home in Boyne

I didn't expect
to communicate with you this soon. But, due to some recent actions of
the Board, this short newsletter addendum seems to be the most appropriate
means to contact the membership. As you may know by now, the Board has
approved the addition of a Children's Theatre production for October
of 2005. We are asking for any potential directors, who have
shows in mind, to forward them to the LTCT office as soon as possible.
The deadline is April 14th, the next board meeting, when the board will
select the director and his or her choice. (Keep in mind that should there
be numerous responses, additional time will be needed to make the selection.)
We apologize for the short notice and if it doesn't fit into your plans
right now, we encourage you to consider next season to participate. Thank
you for understanding.
AND…now that spring has officially arrived, our thoughts must turn to
summer, for what is spring north of the 45th parallel anyway, but a mere
three day tease into summer. So, having said that, the call is going out
for nominations for LTCT's infamous Pig and Egg Awards. Once again,
the prestigious pig is awarded to one who has made a significant commitment
to the theatre in the past. While the egg is awarded to a dedicated soul
whose enthusiasm has been displayed this current season. You are asked
to forward the name or names of your person/people of choice to the LTCT
office to any receptive board member. These awards will be made at the
Annual Meeting this June, the location and date of which is still to be
announced.
AND…It is also time again to remind you all that the LTCT board needs
restocking. This "spine" of the organization serves a much
needed function and five new terms will be open and awaiting your
participation. You are encouraged to give it some serious consideration.
Larry Willis is heading the nominating committee and will receive
your comments or questions at 347-7775 or 347-3399.

Just follow the Yellow Brick Road
The Wizard of Oz, a play in three acts, dramatized by Adele Thane, is
adapted from L. Frank Baum’s, “The Wizard of Oz". This story is a
truer adaptation of the book than the movie musical that everyone is familiar
with. Not only does Dorothy meet the well known cast of Witches, Munchkins,
Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Woodman, but she also meets the Winkies. Show
dates for this entertaining story are February 10 - 13. Curtain for the
evening performances is 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. for Sunday's matinee. Prices
are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
Second Sunday
Are you tired
of giving your sweetheart the same old gift of flowers and candy? If so,
treat them to a night of fabulous entertainment they will never forget.
The LTCT Impov Comedy Troupe will be performing on Sunday, February 13,
at the City Park Grill in Petoskey. Show time is at 7:00 and the cover
charge is only $5.00 a person. See you there!

This intricate time-traveling comic thriller by
the British master of farcical comedy delighted London and New York audiences.
A London sex therapist from the future, Poopay, stumbles into a murder
plot that sends her, compliments of a unique set of hotel doors, traveling
back in time. She and two women who were murdered in 1994 and 1974 race
back and forth in time trying to rewrite history and prevent their own
violent ends. The frantic race begins when Poopay is hired for an evening
at the Regal Hotel by an old man who eschews a fling in favor of confessing
his role in the demise of his wives. Now a target, Poopay flees into the
vestibule and somehow triggers the time machine. A thriller where characters
go whirling throughout time.

It’s time to reserve your tickets for “The Christmas Schooner”.
This is a new musical written by Chicagoans John Reeger and Julie Shannon.
Gary Albert is directing the artistic aspects of the show with
musical direction by long time LTCT veteran, Gig Stewart, and Sally
Page at the piano.
Set in the 1880’s, “The Christmas Schooner” is based on the true story
of the Stossel family, a German born shipping family residing in Manistique,
MI. Peter Stossel, upon receiving a pre-Christmas letter from his relations
in Chicago, decides to load his ship, the Molly Doone, with Christmas
trees and brave the November storms to take them to Chicago where he plans
to sell them to immigrants missing their homeland traditions. His wife,
Alma, is opposed to the idea because of the grave danger involved, but
Peter is resolved and thus begins a story that spans six years of a Christmas
mission based on love.
The cast for the show is superb. Many of you are sure to remember Robin
Kredell from her role as one of the Christine’s in “Phantom 2000”.
Robin is playing Alma and she is joined by the extremely talented LTCT
newcomers, Tori Garborg, Wil Bednar, Chris Anderson,
and Jordan Garborg as the other members of the Peter Stossel family.
Rounding out the cast are LTCT veterans Sabra Hayden, Ellen
McKinney, James Bruney, Corinne Koury, and Krista
Scott. And appearing for the first time on the LTCT stage are Don
Roberts, Aaron Place, and Hannah Stoppel.
We need to add that we are still in need of a the following crew positions:
backstage props person, make-up/hair, and sound tech. “
The Christmas Schooner” is suitable for the entire family, keeping in
mind that there are a couple of scenes that may trouble the very young.
It is fast paced with lively music, familiar carols, and an intriguing
storyline. Preview night is Thursday, December 9 at 8:00 p.m. and tickets
for that night are $8 for everyone. The show continues at 8:00 p.m. December
10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 and tickets for those nights are $15 for adults
and $8 for children 12 and under. In addition, we will present two matinee
performances on Sunday, December 12 and 19 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for these
performances are $8 for all. For further information or to reserve tickets
please call 231-348-1850 or go online to www.ltct.org.
As a special holiday gift, LTCT will collect a free will offering at the
end of each night’s performance to give to eight different charities in
the Emmet Charlevoix Counties area. Watch the Petoskey News Review for
the charities and the nights they will be featured. You can come enjoy
the show, support LTCT, and give a little something to another of your
favorite charities.
Children’s Theater Auditions
For the first time in thirty years, auditions will be held
for a LTCT children’s production on Sunday and Monday December 12 and
13 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bear River Heritage Building in Petoskey. This
non-musical production is based on the characters created by Frank L.
Baum in his book series. Children age 8 through 16 are encouraged to audition.
The only requirement is that the younger actors be proficient readers.
There are 18 named character roles as well as roles for extras. The first
read through will take place on December 18 at 1 p.m. Since this story
is so well known, scripts will not be made available prior to auditions.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please
contact Sabra Hayden, the director, at 675 5282 or 582 2077.
We’ll Miss You!
SFC Scott Madden, who has been transferred from his Army recruiting
duties in Petoskey, will be missed on and off the stage by the audience
and members of LTCT who had a chance to get to know him in the two years
he was here. First seen as Sam in "The Cemetery Club", Scott
went on to play Hortensio in "The Taming of the Shrew" and most
recently was Noah in "The Rainmaker". In addition he was often
found working behind the scenes or helping on LTCT committees and often
performed with the Second Sunday Improv Troop. While he waits for his
next orders, he is working in the Detroit area headquarters and enjoying
time with his sons, Tim and Adam. Not to mention Stage Managing Southgate
Players production of "Will Rogers Follies". The man truly has
theatre in his blood or is a glutton for punishment, (maybe both). LTCT
wishes you well in your new assignment, Scott, whatever it might be, and
we all strongly recommend that you dodge any bullets that might come your
way as we'd sure like to see you back here soon, as you say, "alive
and kickin'".
Cassandra George (Phillips) who
once graced our stage a few years back (she was in The Curious Savage
and Come Back to the 5 and Dime, and Jimmy Dean, to name a few) gave birth
to her first child on November 14 at 3:45 p.m. Her daughter, named Cadence
Ellen, was 8 lbs, 5 ounces. Proud grandfather, Jack, will be traveling
down to see Cassandra next week. Cassandra and her husband Brian are hoping
that he will be transferred to Houston.

Way for the Christmas Schooner
Auditions for cast members to board The Christmas Schooner will be held
Monday and Tuesday, October 11th and 12th at the Ross Stoakes Theatre
at the Crooked Tree Arts Center. This delightful and heartfelt holiday
musical about a family in turn of the century Michigan's Upper Peninsula
and their mission to bring the Tannenbaum to the people of post-fire Chicago,
is based on true events. There are roles for 8-9 men, including one 10-12
year old boy, one 14-15 year old young man, 5-6 men from 20-40 and one
older man 55-65. On the women's side, there are 5-6 roles available, including
one 11-13 year old girl and 4-5 women ranging in age from early 20's to
late thirties/early 40's. All roles are available and offer great character
work! I encourage any actor who can sing, even a little, to audition for
this gem of a show. Please prepare a song of your choice -- preferably
one that shows your vocal range and power; you will also be asked to cold
read from the script! You won't want to miss this opportunity to be a
part of an experience our audiences will treasure in their hearts and
memories for a long time to come! If you have any questions, please contact
me personally at 231.881.3277 or call the LTCT office at 231.348.1850.
